A defense minister has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the potential security risks posed by Chinese cars, while staff have been instructed to refrain from talking about classified matters in any vehicles.

During a recently aired interview on LBC, a defence minister addressed claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been told not to discuss secret information while travelling in Chinese cars.
The minister said that the MoD is “looking into” cars from China within its fleets, but stressed that safety is a concern in all contemporary vehicles.
We have a fleet of tens of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a very small number.
However regardless of if you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is not to plug Ministry of Defence technology into their vehicle, not to have conversations at a secret level in any vehicle, due to the growing risks of eavesdropping that are present in every single automobile, to restrict those secret talks in protected areas. This is a prudent and sensible thing for anyone concerned about security.
After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using every cars from China, the minister replied: ‘That’s precisely what we are looking into at the moment.”

The revelation comes as reports from Norway and Denmark have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could enable China to switch off buses and cause disruption to transport systems.
Additionally, a Russia spy ship has been directing lasers at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” action by defence officials.
