The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Lead to Boost Struggling Action Game Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Shift Follows Lukewarm Feedback

The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified employees about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a more defined vision.

The president stated that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to address player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

The news mirrors a similar step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.

Below is the full content from the president's announcement:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to endure.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last autumn’s the game testing phase was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had improvements to make. It revealed the requirement for a more distinct brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the feedback to mind and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed vision - one that’s poised to deliver on its ambition to our players.

The trust in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the remarkable progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce the new hire as the new Studio Head of the team. Following a period of discussions, he officially joins us on the specified date.

Ben’s leadership and experience in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having devoted the recent years developing and leading some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in greeting Ben in the coming days. We are all looking forward to persist seeing the development of the game in the time to ahead.

David

Experience of the Incoming Leader

The appointee presently serves in the role of senior developer and production lead at the renowned studio for their flagship title. He earlier was employed at major gaming companies in various production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, prior to that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Information and Concept

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a early access event. Initially, the developers presented the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the category."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch explains. "Take on the competition with fresh skills, stakes, and tests that change every match. Do you leave securely with your collected items? Alternatively take a risk, risk it all, and pray your team can secure victory? The choice is in your hands."

The game has not yet received an official launch window or platforms, but players can look forward to more updates as creation continues.
